Supporters cite Vijay's kindness, critics his hypocrisy

Thalapathy Vijay's kindness has been highlighted by his supporters online. As per them, the TVK chief didn't take a political plunge without doing noble things for many years.

Vijay ran Vijay Payilakam (free study centres), Vijay Vilaiyilla Unavagam (free food services), and Vijay Kuruthiyagam (blood donation camps), his supporters say. "Brick by brick, constituency by constituency, long before there was ever a party name," wrote an article by Statesman.

On the other hand, Vijay's critics say that he has been itching to ally with the very Congress party that he criticized in 2011. Back in the day, he supported Anna Hazare's Lokpal agitation in New Delhi. Before him, the only major Tamil star who did it was Rajinikanth. On stage, Vijay said that corruption must be uprooted. At that time, the Congress was being cornered by the opposition BJP and the media. In the film Sarkar, a dialogue questions the freebie culture. Ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, the TVK offered more freebies than its rivals.
