The South Indian Film Producers Association (SIFPA) has held a vital meeting in Hyderabad. It's the second meeting since its formation. This gathering brought together leaders from all major southern film industries. Their goal was to address the growing financial and operational pressures facing regional cinema.
A major focus of the discussions was OTT windowing. As is known, in April, SIFPA clearly stated that OTT windows are not possible. It added that no other associations or groups can impose such rules on producers. The move highlights rising tensions between theatres and streaming services across the South. Producers say the demand hurts their business interests.
The meeting also tackled the rising cost of production. Leaders discussed ways to manage budgets more effectively without compromising quality. This involves better coordination with the workforce and more sustainable film financing models. The group stressed that long-term stability requires a unified policy approach across all four languages.
Sustainability in this industry depends on the involvement of all stakeholders. SIFPA is committed to working closely with distributors, theater owners, and buyers of film rights. "By fostering transparency and inter-industry collaboration, they aim to create a stronger ecosystem for everyone involved," a source says.
Structured deliberations will continue at the next association meeting. This follow-up session is scheduled for June 14 in Cochin. The industry remains hopeful that these collective efforts will lead to the ironing out of the aforementioned pressing issues.
