Potluri Vara Prasad hogged headlines months after the release of Jr NTR's Temper. He financed the Puri Jagannadh directorial, reportedly, to the tune of Rs 35 Cr. While producer Bandla Ganesh returned the principal amount, as per PVP, a part of the interest was unpaid. Dues to the tune of Rs 7 Cr became a bone of contention between the PVP-Ganesh duo for many years. They even lodged police complaints against each other. In his latest interview, he hinted that he left the film industry due to such experiences. Kshanam, Oopiri, Brahmotsavam and Vishwaroopam are among the movies he was associated with.
In 2019, PVP was fielded by the YSRCP for Vijayawada's Lok Sabha seat. The financier-entrepreneur lost to TDP candidate Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) by a slender margin. In his latest interview, PVP hinted that he lost the election because he didn't distribute money to voters. He might re-enter politics in the future, he hinted.
Sensationally, he claimed that the public affidavits filed by candidates with the Election Commission are a "joke" in India. "Politicians whose actual net worth is Rs 5000 Cr claim to own a mere Rs 50 Cr. Businessmen whose actual net worth is Rs 50 Cr claim to own Rs 5000 Cr," PVP said, implying that the system has always been broken.
