Gurtimpu Trailer makes a thorough impact

Gurtimpu, the sports-based courtroom drama, begins on a punchy note. When a lawyer argues that cricket is India's national game, the judge 'corrects' him, saying it's hockey. The male lead, played by KJR, chips in with the actual factoid: there is nothing called a national game, just as Vande Mataram is not a national song and Hindi is not the only national language.

"Our film explores themes that concern the entire sports ecosystem, touching upon the functioning of the bureaucracy and the political nexus that disadvantages the underprivileged. The marginalized can't dream of making it big in the field of sports," the makers say.

The male lead plays a determined, passionate aspiring runner who must overcome man-made hurdles to become what he wants to be. He challenges the Sports ministry, no less. And litigating against the government is fraught with risks; the whole system gangs up to ensure that the victim doesn't get justice. Will he get what he wants? The judge's empathy might be the X factor in the case. Or, it could be something else. This "India's biggest court battle" will pose serious questions and come up with consequential answers.

Director JP Thenpathiyan infuses family emotions. The performances, Ghibran's background score, Peter Hein's action choreography, A Viswanath's cinematography, and Ramu Thangaraj's art direction are expected to be among the chief highlights.

Co-starring Viji Venkatesh, Rangaraj Pandey, Vasundhara, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Ramji, the film is produced by Ganga Entertainments and Swastik Visions. Producers SK Prashanth, Ajith Bhaskar, and Arun Murugan will announce the release date soon. Gurtimpu is titled Angikaaram in Tamil.
