In the low-stakes world of rural cockfighting, where feathers and fury dictate social standing, the sudden disappearance of a champion rooster sends a village into a tailspin. Tasked with the recovery are Ravi (Raviteja Nannimala) and Mohan (Getup Srinu), a pair of bumbling officers whose misplaced confidence is their only real investigative tool. This is the premise of Memu Coplam, the soon-to-be-streamed ZEE5 Original series. Also starring Naga Babu (Gajapathi Raju), the comedy entertainer with suspenseful elements will make its debut on May 22.
While the show begins as a farcical pursuit of a bird, the narrative's evolution is its strongest asset. The second act shifts the stakes, transforming the village from a quirky backdrop into a pressure cooker of conflicts. The introduction of black magic rumors and activism provides a delectable layer to the plot. Since Memu Coplam is an OTT series, it has the 'real estate' to breathe. Unlike a two-hour film, the long-form format allows the writers to deep-dive into the subplots of local politics and friction, making the eventual "madness" feel earned rather than forced. The earthy Godavari-rooted texture will be a treat. The screenplay is written by Shoban Chittuprolu and Chanakya Varma, while dialogues are penned by Shoban, Chanakya, and Gopala Krishna Vidmahe.
As director Pradeep Maddali says, "The humor organically emerges through misunderstandings, social absurdities, and the sincere seriousness with which every character treats the missing rooster crisis." The cops will unleash accidental investigative smarts.
Reethu Chowdary, Charan Lakkaraju, Siri Parvathy, and Kireeti Damaraju play important roles. The technical crew includes cinematographer Kishore Boyidapu, editor Michael D’selva, and music composer Saket Komanduri.
Produced by BVS Ravi under RAW Entertainments, Memu Coplam has its story written by Shoban Chittuprolu.
D/O Prasad Rao: Kanabadutaledu, Nayanam, Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting, Vikkatakavi, Paruvu, Puli Meka, and Aha Naa Pellanta are among ZEE5's recent originals in Telugu.
