A crossover athlete is a multi-sport athlete who competes at a high level or transitions professionally between entirely different sports disciplines. Ram Charan's character in Peddi is one such achiever, mastering cricket, wrestling, and running. What happens when he has to create history at the national level by displaying his mind-blowing motor skills and tactical finesse in a high-endurance national context? That's what director Buchi Babu Sana aims to explore in Peddi.
The film's narrative on subalterns (represented by the protagonist, Jagapathi Babu's character) clashing with the dominant class (represented by Divyenndu, Hareesh Peredi and others) is nothing new. If the dialogues, punchlines, and the emotions woven around this track are powerful, Peddi will be a winner.
AR Rahman's background score (which is very average in the trailer) must go beyond the pathos and triumphalism of the story. Avinash Kolla's production design doesn't look out of the box. Shiva Rajkumar's character needs to spring a surprise.
Ram Charan has played a physically exhausting role. He has injured himself thrice and has already undergone a surgery (and another is scheduled for this week). One hopes all this works out for him at the end.
Vriddhi Cinemas and Mythri Movie Makers are set to ensure a big release. Peddi will head to theatres on June 4, with premiere shows scheduled for the night of June 3.
