It's known that FIRs have been registered against two individuals for allegedly running negative campaigns against Peddi. As per a complaint lodged by Vriddhi Cinemas, the individuals used multiple Instagram and Twitter accounts to carry out the campaign. This gives rise to the possibility of many upcoming Tollywood biggies proactively seeking legal intervention against "review bombing".
The courts, in recent cases in India, distinguish between an ordinary audience member expressing an aggressive opinion and an organized, corporate corporate-style racket. Recently, various High Courts in India have looked into the phenomenon of "review bombing" and corporate PR wars.
To gain protection, the production house lodging the complaint will have to prove that extortion, blackmail or criminal intimidation was involved. The emerging judicial consensus is that while the court will protect filmmakers from genuine extortion rings (agencies demanding lakhs of rupees to stop a negative campaign), it will not act as a tool to silence the general public or independent reviewers.
