Premalu, directed by Girish AD, was released in 2024 and became a huge money-spinner. Telling the story of Sachin, played by Naslen K. Gafoor, an engineering graduate who moves to Hyderabad for a GATE coaching course after his plans to move abroad stall, it catapulted Mamitha Baiju, who played an IT professional, to fame. In the same year, Premalu 2 was made official. SS Karthikeya (SS Rajamouli's son) even announced that he would be presenting the Telugu version.
Two years hence, the project has been stuck. Whatever happened to it? As per Naslen, it has been withdrawn. The sequel has been shelved because they couldn't come up with a script that satisfied them. Because the first film became a cult classic rom-com, Bhavana Studios chose to drop the sequel entirely for the time being rather than force a subpar storyline just to cash in on the brand name.
While this is the stated reason, one wonders if something else went behind the curtains.
