Prem Keetanu, the Hindi remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Premalu, stars Veer Pahariya, Aparshakti Khurana, Aafiya Syed, Rakesh Bedi, and Nikhil Vijay. Apoorva Singh Karki has wielded the megaphone.
What are the reviews saying about the remake? Let's find out.
Rediff: Prem Keetanu feels outdated for its 'boys will be boys' narrative and muddled messaging, failing to deliver a compelling modern romance.
Cinema Express: Prem Keetanu displays a shockingly weeny understanding of the rom-com genre, and what makes it work. There are two levels on which this film can be analysed — everything it brings to the table, and everything it omits from the original.
India Today: Director Apoorv Singh Karki delivers a classic case of old wine in a new bottle. The direction relies heavily on dated visual templates, resorting to standard slow-motion shots and dream sequences that fail to elevate the storytelling.
Hindustan Times: The film begins to lose some of its spark when it shifts focus to the central love story. The romantic track lacks the same energy that made the initial portions work. Adding to the problem are too many songs, several of which do little to advance the narrative.
Times of India: Unlike Chhichhore, which balanced youthful humour with the emotional weight of friendship, failure and growing up, Prem Keetanu doesn’t explore its characters’ struggles in much depth.
