Warner Bros. has made a terrific announcement. It has officially locked in the theatrical release date for the first Game of Thrones feature film, titled Aegon’s Conquest.
It will land in cinemas on June 1, 2029.
Director Owen Harris will lead the project behind the camera. The story takes place roughly 300 years before the events of the original television series. It focuses on Aegon I Targaryen and his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys. Together, they used their dragons to conquer six of the Seven Kingdoms and forge the iconic Iron Throne. No official casting details have been revealed by the studio yet.
Casting speculation is active, with Henry Cavill frequently named as a top fan choice for Aegon, alongside names like Timothée Chalamet, Tom Holland, or Callum Turner. Jokes and rumors circulate about using existing dragons or other dream casts. Some view the theatrical format positively for spectacle and as a potential gateway to more film adaptations.
