Chiranjeevi Hanuman: The Eternal: Can India’s AI mythological gamble find a global audience?

Chiranjeevi Hanuman: The Eternal is the title of an AI-assisted feature film produced by Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment and directed by Rajesh Mapuskar. Developed as a major "Made-in-AI" and "Made-in-India" project, the movie leverages cutting-edge technology to bring the epic story of Lord Hanuman to life on a grand scale.

The film is confirmed to be released in theatres either in November or December. The release strategy has been planned to follow other major mythological titles in the industry's pipeline.

While the makers are avowedly aiming to target the global audience, the ambition is not inspired. For one, it is an AI film with the threat of artificiality written all over it. Unless the visuals are out of the ordinary, it will be called AI slop. For another, as of now, even Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana hasn't got an international buzz. In such a scenario, what chance does an AI film have? If Ramayana and Chiranjeevi Hanuman somehow manage to grab the attention of a niche segment of the global audience (particularly in China), expect Rishab Shetty's Jai Hanuman to pull up its socks in 2027.
