Robert Pattinson’s Primetime: Reviews are out

Robert Pattinson’s Primetime (the American psychological crime thriller) was released in theatres this Friday. The early reviews are out.

Pattinson's portrayal of the host (modeled on To Catch a Predator's Chris Hansen) is universally singled out as the film's standout element. Reviewers describe his performance as "magnetic," "unhinged," and "sensational," with multiple critics comparing his sinister charisma to Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler or Christian Bale in American Psycho. Rather than playing a simple villain, Pattinson turns the character into a fame-hungry, polished TV figure whose need to be watched becomes downright grotesque.

Outlets like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter highlighted the movie’s operatic, almost surreal tone, noting that it plays like a mix between newsroom drama, dark satire, and psychological horror.

Some critics feel the film loses its momentum or gets too heavy-handed with its satirical point in the third act. It leans into ghostly or surreal imagery that distracts from the core drama. However, many concede that the central thesis of questioning the audience's own complicity in consuming sensationalism remains sharp and effective.

The Indian version is censored. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly cut seven seconds of frontal nudity and muted explicit words in Robert Pattinson’s film Primetime (English). The decision stands out because the film already earned an A rating for adults.
