Interview of Aishwarya Rajesh about Republic

Aishwarya Rajesh talks about 'Republic', which is all set to head to the theatres on October 1. The sought-after actress, who knows Telugu fluently, talks about what she enjoyed the most about doing the film, teaming up with Sai Dharam Tej for the first time, Deva Katta's vision, and a lot more.

I have played a woman named Myra Hanson in the movie. Deva Katta's movies don't have a heroine, hero and things like that. It's always a character that he deals with.

'Republic' came my way after the first wave of the pandemic. The director narrated the story for an hour on the first day. Not many directors explain things so elaborately. He gave the first-hour narration for 3 hours. His vision is detailed and clear.

Myra is an NRI. She is in India in connection with an issue. 'Republic' has a love story but it is not usual. There are no song-and-dance routines and cutesy scenes. The portrayal of love is subtle.

'Republic' is a commercial film but it's not a regular outing at the same time. The very title is very related to the content. You will get it when you watch the movie. The trailer itself gives clues about the rationale behind the title.

Sai Dharam Tej is a gem of a person. He has put in a lot of effort to give his best. Since he is a government official in the movie, he has to be clear and talk to the public with conviction. He could complete a long monologue in a single shot. We were stunned and everyone clapped on set. I hope 'Republic' is going to be his best film. He has been hospitalized but I haven't got to visit him.

I shot for 'Republic' for 22 days but the dubbing took 15 days. You can understand how much Deva Katta is particular about the dialogue delivery of his actors.

I believe in playing impactful characters. I recently received an award for my performance in 'World Famous Lover'. I am not against glamorous roles, but all that I want to say is that I prefer performance-driven characters. The likes of Krithi Shetty and Sai Pallavi have become stars in the shortest time because of their performances.

I can't talk about 'Bheemla Nayak' and whether I am doing it or not. You will know the truth in due course of time.

I am listening to scripts in Telugu. Director Kiran Reddy of 'Gatham' fame gave me a narration. I am busy with offers in Tamil, where I have been playing a lot of performance-oriented roles.

'Kousalya Krishnamurthy' was my Telugu debut in a full-fledged way. While its content was great, it had to face stiff competition from 'Saaho' a week after its release. But I am glad that people have loved it totally after watching it on TV.

A lot of people are talking about bold Pawan Kalyan garu's speech on Saturday. I have listened to it.
