'Baby' is a novel story with a shocking interval block: Producer SKN

Producer SKN turns a year older this July 7. After making hits like 'Taxiwala', he is waiting for the theatrical release of 'Baby' this July 14. Starring Anand Deverakonda, Vaishnavi Chaitanya and Viraj Ashwin, the triangular love story is expected to become a box-office hit. In this interview, SKN says that his movies have always had a resounding music. 'Baby' is no exception. SKN also talks about his upcoming movies, which are a bunch going to feature star heroes. Find out about the merits of 'Baby' and more in this detailed interview.

I don't usually celebrate my birthdays. Since my film is coming up next week, I wanted to give this interview. 'Baby' will go down as a classic. For a section of the audience, the film will feel very personal and intimate. They will leave the hall with a heavy heart.

'Baby' is a highly intense, emotional, musical love story with extraordinary songs. I can say with confidence that the music is the best for this genre in recent times. The word novelty has been over-used. As far as 'Baby' is concerned, it is completely original featuring never-seen-before scenes. After 'Taxiwala', this is my first movie as the solo producer.

Emotions, rare circumstances, three lovers and what happens between them is going to give a new experience to the audience. The interval block has got a shocking element. That scene is what made me want to produce the film. I assured Sai Rajesh that I will surely do it. Had it not been for the pandemic, 'Baby' would have happened a couple of years ago.

Maruthi and I started Mass Movie Makers. I,Bunny Vas and Vamsi of UV Creations have known each other for many years. Vamsi became a producer with 'Mirchi'. Each of them loved the story of 'Baby'. The behaviour of the main characters is as per the circumstances they find themselves in. They react to situations. That's a key highlight of the story.

I knew Anand Deverakonda even before his first movie was out. I caught up with him during the making of 'Taxiwala'. He is extremely down-to-earth and simple. He is aware of cinema. When I did 'Taxiwala' with Vijay Deverakonda, 'Arun Reddy' hadn't yet been released. I believed that he will become a star hero. Similarly, I decided to do a film with Anand even before his debut.

Sai Rajesh and I grew up listening to Ilaiyaraja's music. We love the classic, vintage style. We dislike music dominating the lyrics in contemporary songs. We took care to ensure that the lyrics in 'Baby' don't get lost in the din.

I have had love failures aplenty (laughs). I believe that those who fail in love become successful in life!

I want to produce two theatrical releases and a web release per year. I like sci-fi films, thrillers, etc. But we can't spot good stories belonging to those genres easily. I have mostly done movies in collaboration with Allu Aravind garu and others.

I will be producing Sai Rajesh's next two movies. I will also be producing 'Colour Photo' Sandeep Raj's next two movies. A film each with Rahul Sankrityan ('Shyam Singha Roy' fame) and Vi Anand ('Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada' fame) are also in the pipeline. The above films will be made with star heroes. There is no plan to do a sequel to 'Taxiwala'. Rahul recently narrated a very good story. I want to mount it on a big scale. It belongs to an atypical genre.

People have advised me to wield the megaphone. But I am not sure if I will make a good director. Some day, I might make a small start by directing a web show.

I started out as a journalist. Owing to my media background, I am disciplined. I always think in terms of marketing, thanks to my PRO background. As a PRO, I got to develop a rapport with star heroes. I listen to scripts as an audience member. I judge movies as a viewer, not as a producer.
