'Valasa', directed by P Sunil Kumar Reddy, is going to release in theatres on January 8. Ahead of its release, the makers have spoken at length about the movie and what made them make it in the first place.

The director, addressing the media, said, "We are happy to announce the release date. My friend Ravi is the reason why I have made 'Valasa'. This is surely a risky subject and was shot entirely in Vizag. The coronavirus-time migration by workers has been depicted in the movie in a sensitive way. The heavy reverse migration is reminiscent of the Partition-time migration in terms of scale. We were all witness to how migrant workers walked all the way to their native villages last year during the lockdown. Their suffering was watched live by us. Many of us were human enough to provide them with food, etc. Even in times of distress, the migrants developed relationships and tried to find humour in life. Their emotions, their travails have been depicted in a realistic way of 'Valasa'. Besides entertainment, our film has a social consciousness. I observed that the very people who laid our roads were not allowed to walk freely during the lockdown. This is not just an Indian movie but also a movie that the global audience need to watch. Thanks to OTT, world cinema is at our fingertips. We are going to release 'Valasa' in theatres in AP and Telangana. And for the international audience, it will be available on Amazon Prime from January 8."

Producer Yakkali Ravindra Babu said, "We have brought out realistic films for 20 years. Sunil Reddy does a lot of research into subjects. The pandemic has caused immense distress to many. Praveen Immadi's music has been receiving a great response."

Executive Producer Bapiraju said, "We have previously brought out 'Sontha Ooru', 'Ganga Putrulu' and 'Gulf' on Sravya Films. 'Valasa' will be released in 90 screens, thanks to the efforts of distributors."

Starring Manoj Nandam, Vinay Mahadev, Teju Anupoju, Gowri, Tulasi Ram, Manisha, Tanisha, FM Babai, Samudram Venkatesh, Nalla Sreenu, Mallika, Chinnari and others, the film has music by Praveen Immadi. The cinematography is by Naresh Kumar Madiki. Sunil Kumar Reddy has also penned its story, screenplay and dialogues.
