'SIR', directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Naga Vamsi S and Sai Soujanya, will hit the cinemas on February 17. Its trailer launch event was held on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the film's director revealed that the story of the film originated from a meme about his style of story-telling. "The meme joked that if I were to make 'Narappa', the hero's family would shift to London in the second half. Coming to 'SIR', it has been a precious opportunity that I got to team up with Dhanush sir. He gave the nod as soon as he was done listening to the story," the 'Mr. Majnu' and 'Rang De' director said.

The makers hinted that the protagonist has got a role with multiple hues in the film, which takes the form of a social drama.

Dhanush, who is playing a Maths teacher in the movie, said that the boundaries between languages have got blurred these days. He also revealed that the story of 'SIR' takes place in a place that borders Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. He thanked the director's vision. The 'Thiruchitrabalam' actor is making his debut in Telugu.

Comedian Hyper Aadi, who has got a sidekick role in the movie, was all praise for the production values of Sithara Entertainment. Samyuktha Menon looked enthusiastic.

With music by GV Prakash and cinematography by J Yuvraj, the film raises a voice against the commercialization of education. "There is more money to make in the education sector than in politics," a character says.

Starring Sai Kumar and Samuthirakani in negative roles, 'SIR' will be released as 'Vaathi' in Tamil.
