Mahesh Babu's nephew enters the Bellamkonda-Boyapati territory

The title of Ashok Galla's movie sounds much like 'Jaya Janaki Nayaka'. It is being called 'Devaki Nandana Vasudeva'. In keeping with the divinely-sounding title, symbolism and iconography related to Lord Krishna pervades the visual topography of the movie. That's what the film's teaser, which was unveiled yesterday, shows.

It would be safe to say that Ashok Galla is entering the Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas-Boyapati Sreenu territory. He has transformed himself into a mass hero for his second movie, after a wacky comedy entertainer like 'Hero' (2022). The nephew of Superstar Mahesh Babu is joined by 'HanuMan' director Prasanth Varma, who has lent the story. Arjun Jandyala has wielded the megaphone.

In a sense, 'Devaki Nandana Vasudeva' is audacious. At a time when there has been an overdose of religious iconography in our films (the recent 'Skanda' didn't impress the audience), small heroes have to be extra careful. Teja Sajja is a small actor but 'HanuMan' is a superhero movie. So, the genre justifies the gravity-defying, illogical action. On the other hand, 'Devaki Nandana Vasudeva' seems to be a regular action entertainer.

Let's just hope the film, whenever it hits the cinemas, doesn't prove to be disappointing.
