My character in 'Kota Bommali PS' is devoid of glamour: Shivani Rajashekar

'Kota Bommali PS' is hitting the theatres on November 24. Produced by Bunny Vass and Vidya Koppineedi, the film stars Shivani Rajashekar as a constable sans glam quotient. In this interview, the young actress says that she doesn't think the film will be flooded with comparisons with the Malayalam original, 'Nayattu'. The political survival thriller tries to be original without mimicking its spiritual mother. The 'Adbhutham' actress talks about her experience of working with Srikanth and others.

I tried to approach 'Kota Bommali PS' as an original movie even though its plot has been borrowed from 'Nayattu' (Malayalam). That's because director Teja Marni transposed the setting and dialogue to Telugu nativity. Since the story is set in Srikakulam, the characters speak in the local dialect to ensure authenticity.

This is the first time I have done the role of a constable. However, she is from a rural background. Having played the role of a tribal girl in a Tamil movie before, I had no reservations. I made up my mind once I was briefed about the character.

My Dad (Dr. Rajashekar) consistently advises me to simply behave like the character. I avoid rehearsed acting. This approach has benefitted me. I totally eschew method acting.

The ensemble cast made the experience all the more special. Srikanth garu has been a family friend. I was comfortable with him because I had seen him in my growing years, thanks to his friendship with my father. As for Varalaxmi Sarathkumar garu, I don't have scenes with her. I hardly was on set for two days when she was there. But I got to learn by observing her.

'Lingi Lingi Lingidi' becoming a viral song feels great. Which actor wouldn't like to be a part of a chartbuster? And this particular song has become the identity of 'Kota Bommali PS'!

I have realized that planning doesn't always work. We have to work hard without losing one's heart. Success will automatically follow. It is not like you become successful only if you play glamorous roles. Filmmakers perceive us differently. I am going with the flow. Commercial movies are my cup of tea but I am waiting for the right offers to come my way. I am confident that, with time, I will land commercial entertainers.

The greatest kick about acting is trying variety. Everyone wants to explore a multitude of roles. That's what keeps us excited. I give importance to the story, followed by my character.

My parents don't interfere with my and my sister's decisions. They are confident about our sense of judgment. They give us the space to explore. They come with vast experience. Their suggestions come from a place of wisdom. So, I discuss my work with them to listen to their perspective.

I heard that my Dad's role in Nithiin's 'Extra - Ordinary Man' is going to be kickass. I am excited about it. He is in a zone where he wants to explore as an actor. Vijay Sethupathy and Arvind Swamy have been on a similar path. Dad wants to play an antagonist. He wants to expand his versatility.
