From an airhostess to an actress the pretty Kaveri Jha has flown a long way to land in the Telugu Film Industry. With her first south film, Nagaram, starring Srikanth and Jagapathi Babu, ready for release RAGALAHARI chats up with the film industry’s latest eye candy about her life before Nagaram.

Q: Where are you actually from?
A: I was born in Bihar but with my father being a government employee we had to move around a lot. Right now we are residing in Mumbai.

Q: You are an airhostess right? How did you land up with acting?
A: Yes, I am an airhostess in Air India. I had also participated in the 2005 Miss India and was adjudged as the winner of the Viewer’s Choice Award. From then on I started modelling, did a couple of music videos, hosted a show along with Sajid Kapoor and then signed my first film, Hijack, opposite Shiny Ahuja.

The producers of Nagaram saw my photographs and called me for an audition. After a photo shoot with Srikanth I was finalized for the film.

Q: How was it working in Nagaram?
A: It was good. The producers are excellent. They gave me time to adjust to the film industry. Srikanth was also very helpful. He gave me good acting tips and made me comfortable. I learnt a lot from him.

Q: What is your role like in this film?

A: I play the role of a PhD student who wants to study the mafia. She feels that due to some misperception and wrong situations people get into mafia. She believes in love and in working for the society. Srikanth plays the role of a rowdy and my character has no problem falling in love with a rowdy.

Q: Isn’t acting interfering with your job as an airhostess?
A: No. Air India management is very co operative. They have allowed me to take up modeling and acting.

Q: Is it true that the Air India airhostesses are quite aged?
A: That is a huge misconception. Air India being a government enterprise allows its employees to work till the age of 58. But they also recruit new air hostesses in the open category and that is how I landed up with that job.

Q: How is the payroll?
A: Air India pays it’s employees really well. Specially those working on the international routes. I get a fat pay check (smiles).

Q: You travel a lot. Which is your favorite overseas destination?

A: New York. It is one of the world’s liveliest places. You cannot  get bored over there, even if you were alone. I love to be alone when in New York.  I also like Paris and Frankfurt. They are very beautiful places.

Q: Which do you prefer? Actress or Air hostess?
A: Actress. Because you get to portray so may varied characters but still be the same person. But both, airhostess and actress, are my dream jobs.

Q: But both the jobs have very different requirements. One is always in constant touch with the public and the other always requires to be away from the general public.
A: Yes. I think it is good to be able to see two sides of a coin at the same time.

Q: Are you ok with exposing?
A: I don’t mind as long as the storyline requires it. Glamour is about a person not the clothes. Either we are glamorous are not. A girl can look very sexy even in a simple saree.

Q: How do you maintain your glamour?
A: Regular workouts and fresh and healthy food.
