Charlotte hosts Telugu Sambaralu 2026
Charlotte's Telugu Sambaralu 2026 drew large crowds and plenty of energy. Children, youth and adults took the stage with classical music, classical dance, freestyle dance and other programs. It was made possible by the coming together of TANA, GTA and APTA, the Telugu-only communities who joined forces for the event. Local talent enjoyed the support. Preserving Telugu culture and strengthening community unity was on the top of everyone's mind.
A science-themed carnival named the Science Fest was a major draw. Children explored nine scientific concepts through hands-on experiments. Demonstrations with dry ice and a plasma ball, along with other creative activities, kept young minds engaged.
NATS President Raj Allada attended, and the event recorded 800 new registrations.
Artists, children, parents, volunteers, sponsors, organizational representatives and attendees received thanks for the enormous success.
NATS opens Michigan chapter
Meanwhile, the North American Telugu Society (NATS) inaugurated its Michigan chapter in Farmington Hills. The chapter aims to strengthen community service, preserve Telugu culture and encourage youth participation.
Sridevi Manepalli was appointed chapter coordinator, with Mahi Bollavaram as joint coordinator. Ravi Chalanti will oversee events and logistics, and Hema Suraparaju will serve as treasurer. Jyothi Javvadi will handle membership, while Anupama Divakarla will manage public relations and media.
NATS Chairman Kishore Kancherla highlighted the organization's helpline and its support for Telugu people in need. President Raj Allada reaffirmed the commitment to community service.
Honors and future plans
The inauguration recognized several community contributors: Manorama Gandhi, Kuchipudi promoter Sandhya Sri Atmakuri, the Telugu language initiative Manabadi, and community service contributor Sunny Reddy. Dr. Harinath Policherla was honored for his work in medicine and cinema. Local students added cultural flair with Kuchipudi performances.
Representatives of APTA, the Detroit Telugu Association, the Detroit Telangana Community and the Indian Overseas Congress attended and supported the new chapter.
The Michigan chapter plans at least one major social initiative every quarter. Its focus areas include "women's health and empowerment, youth leadership, sports and family activities". It will also work to preserve the Telugu language and traditions for future generations.
