The Savitri Mahotsavam was held in Hyderabad to celebrate the 90th birth anniversary of Mahanati Savitri. The event was organized by Sanjay Kishore, Chairman of the Sangamam Foundation, under the supervision of Savitri's daughter, Vijaya Chamundeswari.
Former Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu, inaugurated the birth anniversary celebrations. He stated that a great actress is immortal, and that Savitri captivated audiences with her miraculous acting skill across all nine 'rasas'. The dignitary further commented that in her acting career, only the character was visible in every film, not the actress.
The event was presided over by Jana Sena Party MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad, who remarked that Savitri's acting was a 'Natya Shastra Grantham' (a definitive treatise on acting) for the film industry. He praised her, stating that no matter how many actresses there are in the film industry, there will only be one Mahanati. Murali Mohan, Tanikella Bharani, Nannapaneni Rajakumari, Roja Ramani, Shiva Parvathi, and others were among the participants.
Producers Priyanka Dutt and Swapna Dutt, who produced the Nag Ashwin-directed Mahanati, were felicitated. Writer Sanjay Kishore and publisher Bollineni Krishnaiah were also honoured. As many as 90 young female singers performed the refrains of Savitri's film songs.
