Thug Life is just two days away from hitting the cinemas. The 5 June 2025 release has been in the thick of a language controversy, cleverly manufactured by the film's pseudo-intellectual lead man, Kamal Haasan.
The advance bookings are not astonishing even in Tamil. The less said about the scenario in the Telugu States, the better. The Telugu audience are waiting for Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu to hit the cinemas on June 12.
Thug Life's pre-release promotional assets haven't impressed the Telugu audience. AR Rahman's album has been seen as serving the tastes of the discerning. By any standard, it is the first weak album in the combination of Rahman and Mani Ratnam.
Thug Life, co-starring Trisha Krishnan, Simbu, Ashok Selvan and others, will find it hard to make a mark in Karnataka. Many exhibitors have backed out of screening the movie because of Kamal Haasan's recent 'Kannada was born out of Tamil' remarks. The actor has moved the court but voluntary boycott will mean that the judiciary won't be able to do anything.
