The Andhra Pradesh government is seized of the concerns that affect the movie-going audience. While the Telugu film industry would want its concerns to be addressed, a government is eventually answerable to the public, too. In this regard, the Kootami government is interested in repeating some of the policy talking points of the previous regime, led by former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
"Officials are examining whether lessees of theatres are paying taxes fully, especially in Rayalaseema, where ticket sales and tax income appear mismatched. Hygiene, prices of food items, and water availability in theatres are also under scrutiny," a report stated.
Some of the aforementioned concerns were raised by the YSRCP government as well. At that time, some film producers who invest in expensive movies did appreciate the intent behind those moves. However, the Jagan government adopted a highly combative approach. As a result, the sarkar was accused of bias and ill-will against some producers/films. Also, it was not interested in a serious, constructive, open-minded discussion on ideal movie ticket rates. All this resulted in confusion, unnecessary friction, and many big-ticket movies failing to break even.
The current government, thanks to Pawan Kalyan's involvement and Chandrababu Naidu's seemingly cooperative attitude towards the industry, is not expected to resort to harassment by arbitrarily slashing ticket prices.
