Bunny Vas wants heroes to pace up, prescribes other solutions

Producer Bunny Vas has said that there is a serious need to think about the dwindling footfalls at the cinemas. While revenues are going up, the growth is entirely because of higher ticket rates.

In a thoughtful social media post, the producer of Thandel opined that Telugu heroes shouldn't take too much time to complete films. "Whether people agree or not, it is true that heroes play a major role in bringing the average audience to theaters. Especially in the Telugu film industry, the influence of heroes in drawing audiences to cinemas is very high. In such an industry, if heroes make only one film every two years, audiences gradually lose interest in movies. The impact is not limited to big-budget films alone; it also affects small films," he wrote.

The OTT windowing came up in his post. "Releasing movies on OTT platforms within just 27 days, which reduces audiences coming to theaters, needs a rethink," he added.

Bunny Vas is aware of the fact that audiences are hungry for "engaging and compelling content". In the absence of such content, they are not inclined to visit theatres. The problem of "high food and beverage prices in multiplexes" was also mentioned.

"Unless these three issues are corrected, there is no use arguing about what percentage should be shared. Otherwise, it will just become a fight over who gets what share of an already shrinking revenue pie, without bringing any real benefit to anyone," he said.

Bunny Vas' post came hours after the Telangana Exhibitors Association issued an ultimatum on percentage-based system.
