Ranjith awaits the release of 'April 28 Em Jarigindi', which will release in theatres on February 27. In this interview, he talks about his background, the premise of the film and more.

I have been a practising doctor for 20 years. It was my father, Yelchuri Venkat Rao garu, who inspired me to become an actor. He wrote a number of movies in the 1980s. He worked with the likes of Krishna garu, Brahmanandam garu and others. He got inspired to take up Ayurveda as a full-time practise and set-up a treatment facility in Hyderabad. It has been run successfully.

I will always be a doctor first. It's my profession. Acting is my passion. I have played the role of a film writer in 'April 28 Em Jarigindi'. When the director narrated to me the story, I was thrilled.

The film has got a cine background. A group of people gets stranded in a place and what kind of situations they encounter is the crux.

I have known actor Nikhil for a year. He genuinely liked the film. He was bowled over by the interval bang. Sohel (Bigg Boss fame) thought of leaving the hall 10 minutes into the movie. But he sat through the entire run-time.

My bread and butter is the medical profession. I love to serve people as an Ayurvedic doctor. Even if I shoot till 6 pm, I will go back and see patients from 7 pm.

I am not a trained actor. I used to bunk the college and watch all sorts of movies. I used to participate in cultural activities as a student. My parents have always supported my passions. I am ready to play a negative role if it has got importance.

When 'April 28 Em Jarigindi' got stalled due to the pandemic, I was mighty disappointed. I am happy that our movie is going out finally. A lot of veterans in the industry are encouraging us.

The date in the title is of importance. It was on April 28 that great films like 'Baahubali', 'Pokiri', 'Yama Leela' and the classic 'Adivi Ramudu' released. When we conceived the title, we didn't know that April 28 has got such importance.

I write stories imagining myself as the hero.
