Vijay Bulganin (alternatively spelled as Vijai) of 'Sapthagiri Express' and 'Sapthagiri LLB' fame is now in the limelight, thanks to 'Baby'. The film has so far grossed more than Rs 60 Cr at the box office. In this interview, Vijay says that 'Baby' is the kind of success he was looking for. In the past, he has done independent music due to passion. "Until 'Baby' was released, I didn't take up any other project. I was very confident in its commercial prospects. After producer SKN, director Sai Rajesh and Anand Deverakonda, it was me who believed in the project intensely," says Vijay.

It was during the Covid-induced lockdown that Sai Rajesh narrated the script over a video call. For more than 2.5 years, I held onto the project with dedication. I started out with the toughest song - 'Premisthunna'. The tuning didn't take much time. The director was impressed thoroughly. That's how it all began.

'Chanti Pillala' was composed during the RR stage. 'O Rendu Prema Meghalila' is another of my favourite in the album.

I have always given my best. 'Baby' gave me my first break. I and the director coordinated with each other on every level.

I feel a composer who can do a melody can handle anything. Even a mass film needs to have a melody. The likes of DSP and Thaman have carved a special image for themselves by composing melodies from time to time.

I come from a humble economic background. It was in my Engineering days that I first told my father about my music dreams. It was a scary situation. He encouraged my passion and let me learn instrumentals formally. I am inspired by AR Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja and MM Keeravani. To enter the industry, I was inspired by my father's elder brother, Sathyamurthy. I didn't work as an assistant under any music director.

Since I had done 'Sapthagiri Express' and 'Sapthagiri LLB', I was branded as a composer for comedy movies. That's why I took on independent music to change the perception.

I value the compliments given by Allu Arjun, Allu Aravind and Vijay Deverakonda. Their words will always be cherished.

I am yet to give a commitment to any project. I am listening to new scripts these days. I want to work with Natural Star Nani. I have previously done 'Meet Cute', the anthology produced by him. Three years ago, he believed I will make it big. While speaking at the audio function of 'Sapthagiri Express', Power Star Pawan Kalyan said that I will make it big.
