Bollywood film 'Shaitaan' gets raving reviews

This week, while 'Bhimaa', 'Gaami' and 'Premalu' (dubbed) were released in Telugu, Bollywood's biggest release was 'Shaitaan'. "A timeless tale of a battle between good and evil with a family embodying the forces of righteousness while a man symbolizes malevolence," says the film's IMDb synopsis. Starring Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan and Jyothika in key roles, the horror film has been praised by film critics.

As per Money Control's mixed review, the film "boasts able performances, a terrific sound design and some nail-biting sequences, without the credible connecting tissue of purpose." "Backed by a poignant premise and powerful performances, director Vikas Bahl generates some genuine moments in eerie situations but surprisingly shows a straight bat in the slog overs," The Hindu wrote in its review.

Indian Express gave it a negative review. "After whetting our appetites with a few well-staged command and control sequences, Ajay Devgn takes over. And how can a hero, even if he has allowed himself to be bashed up and bloodied till then, not win?" the reviewer wrote. "Shaitaan’s appeal lies in the atmosphere it creates, especially without the use of CGI. It mostly hinges on the antagonist’s sinister intentions and games, which leave you with an unsettling feeling," wrote Times Of India.
