Anupama Parameswaran pushes back on Paradha's 'anti-male' label

Anupama Parameswaran's latest box office release, Paradha, revolves around a village woman who tries to escape from the vice-like grip of superstition and obscurantism. The narrative features dialogues about why it is essential for women to fight for themselves, given men "lack empathy". A section of the audience have felt that Paradha takes an anti-men stance by allegedly villainizing all men.

Anupama, who played the protagonist Subba Lakshmi, has defended her film against the charge that her movie castigates all men as misogynistic. "All men? Seriously allllll men? It’s unfair to mislead people and definitely unfair to do that for just engagement! Congratulations," the Premam and Karthikeya 2 actress wrote sarcastically.

When the early promotional material of Paradha was released, many presumed that the movie will feature a lesbian element. The film is anything but. Directed by Praveen Kandregula, Paradha co-stars Darshana Rajendran, Sangitha Krish and others. Gopi Sundar is its music director.
