Kantara Chapter 1 is turning out to be a bad example among movies riding on a terrific 'second part' hype in the film industry. Since this is a prequel to a blockbuster, its Overseas pre-release theatrical deals were highly valued. Hombale Films registered massive deals before the movie's release. Since the film's budget is billed to be upwards of Rs 200 Cr, the lucrative deals were used to partly cover the high costs.
Unfortunately, the period-based mythological action drama narrative is posting losses in key international territories such as North America. As per Box Office trackers, the film will end up reporting terrible losses, having gone into the red already.
In the coming years, the Kantara Chapter 1 precedent will induce extreme caution in Overseas distributors.
Kantara Chapter 1, starring Rishab Shetty in the lead and directed by him, has music by Ajaneesh Loknath. Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram have primary characters.
