The misuse of the photos of celebrities for illegal promotions is rampant in India. In this regard, several celebs have approached the High Courts. Among them are Bollywood celebrities like Aishwarya Rai and southern stars like Akkineni Nagarjuna. The Kuberaa actor's lawyers had a strong case against cyber culprits. They presented 14 URLs to the Delhi High Court and got an injunction order against the owners of the websites.
The fear of unauthorized and deceptive promotions has gripped Indian film celebrities in recent years. "Malicious entities create and monetize fake content, such as morphed pornographic videos or merchandise, using paid promotions on social media. This deceives audiences into believing the celebrity endorses illegal or unethical products/services, potentially leading to financial scams or reputational damage," says a legal expert.
It is in this context that Nagarjuna's legal victory against mischief-mongers and shady businessmen has to be seen.
