Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla are the most prominent actor-owners who co-own Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) through Red Chillies Entertainment and the Mehta Group. The Jawan actor holds a majority stake of approximately 55%. Preity Zinta is the long-standing face and co-owner of Punjab Kings. She holds a 23% stake in her franchise.

Let's understand the returns they have made. The financial growth for these actors has been extraordinary. In 2008, SRK and his partners purchased KKR for roughly $75 million. By 2026, the team's valuation has surged to over $1.1 billion. This represents a return of over 1,300%. If he is one of the richest actors in the world, it is because of his IPL stakes.

Preity Zinta and her partners acquired the Punjab franchise for about $76 million. Despite fewer titles on the field, the team's market value has skyrocketed. The league's media rights deals and global expansion have fueled this growth. Today, even the lowest-valued teams are worth ten times their original price. For these actors, the IPL has been a masterclass in wealth creation. It is said that Preity's investment in the IPL is solely because of her then-boyfriend, Ness Wadia. During their relationship, they became business partners by co-purchasing the Punjab Kings franchise. Preity has since moved on and married Gene Goodenough in 2016.
