In Fauzi, Prabhas plays an impossibly heroic fictional character placed in real-life contexts. At the height of World War II, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gives a masala-cinema-style elevation to this multifaceted genius (a “soldier, strategist, and spy”) when Adolf Hitler, then Germany’s foolish ruler, who is yet to comprehend how eagerly India awaits its saviour, mocks India for having “slavery in its blood”. Apparently, Bose knows that this legendary rebel is very much in Calcutta, serving his motherland and capable of taming the British in no time, yet seeks Hitler’s help anyway. Well!
Director Hanu Raghavapudi gets the final portions pitch-perfect, though. As India's "Biggest Rebel Soldier" who has been "most wanted since 1932", Prabhas' unnamed protagonist is gearing up for a massacre with a machine gun in tandem.
Producers Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Y and Bhushan Kumar plan to release Fauzi, co-starring Mithun Chakraborty, Imanvi, Anupam Kher, and Jaya Prada, on 19 March 2027. As Fauzi is established as an ambitious freedom movement-era period drama, two technicians have their task cut out: production designer Anil Jadhav and composer Vishal Chandrasekhar.
