The Pop Golden Awards, which has given the Golden Bollywood Actor Award to Ram Charan this year, is an awards category not many have heard of before. The Golden Bollywood Actor category, which includes both male actor and female actor nominations, "recognizes the most talented and popular leading actor or actress in Hindi cinema".
The official website of Pop Golden Awards says that the winner is chosen by popular vote. "It honors the Bollywood star voted by fans as giving the best overall performance in a Hindi film or TV series released that year. The recipient is selected directly by the audience, highlighting acting achievements that most resonated with viewers. The award celebrates standout talent in India’s storied Bollywood industry, cementing the winner’s status as the country’s most acclaimed screen icon of the year," a post on the official website of the obscure awards reads.
Ram Charan's competitors in the nominations include two bona fide Bollywood superstars - Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. And a host of less-known actors: Vishesh Bansal, Ridhi Dogra, Apoorva Arora, and Arjun Mathur. Adah Sharma of 'Kshanam' fame and Raashi Khanna were also nominated.
When popular vote is involved, you would expect the nominations to be believable at the very least. The above set of nominations looks random. Charan who is not a Bollywoodian has been considered for nominations for reasons best known to the organizers.
Adding to the hilarity factor, the website says, "Pop Golden Awards must be considered a prestigious acting honor in Indian entertainment. The Golden Bollywood Actor Award spotlights the Bollywood star who made the biggest impact on fans."
"Prestigious acting honour?" Hmm..
