Lyricist Kulasekhar's demise saddens friends, colleagues

Kulasekhar was a prominent lyricist in the early 2000s. His creative partnerships with then new-age directors like Teja were almost always successful.

His fall, however, was as sudden as his rise. He went out of fashion despite possessing immense talent. In 2013, he was incarcerated for allegedly stealing jewelry from a temple. By then, his mental state was in dire straits.

After his death on Tuesday, many have shared personal accounts about Kulasekhar. "He was my classmate during my time at Eenadu Journalism School between 1996 and 1997. He had a unique talent for singing songs spontaneously about any given situation during breaks in the classroom. Those moments still echo in my mind. He experienced incredible highs in life but also fell to the lowest depths. I visited him once when he was in jail, and I still remember his eyes looking at me, devoid of any expression. I have never seen anyone around me live a rollercoaster life like his. I feel as though God has now decided to grant him peace," wrote Srinivasa Rao.

Kulasekhar attempted to become a filmmaker and producer, but his efforts didn't pay off. He allegedly got mired in debts.
