Mahesh Babu, until about SPYder, did some movies just by instinct. One of them was The Businessman, which was a Sankranthi 2012 release.
At that time, Mahesh's career was on the upswing with the success of Dookudu. The Businessman went on the floors immediately after its release. While a version says that Mahesh did have the full script of Businessman before the release of Dookudu, Puri Jagannadh himself stated otherwise. In a post-release interview, Puri said that Mahesh didn't know the full story. "He just believed in me and did the movie. Nobody has reposed this kind of faith in me before," Puri said.
It's probable that the script that was handed over to Mahesh Babu was altered later. The Businessman was a problematic movie with its lionization of a negative protagonist. Its success paved the way for a sharp debasement of Puri's creativity. Thirteen years later, he continues to churn out bad movies, Jr NTR's Temper being the sole exception.
