T-Series boards Rishab Shetty’s Rs 500-Cr Shivaji epic; Doubts linger

T-Series is currently backing several major pan-Indian projects related to southern talents. Prabhas' Fauzi and Spirit, and Jr NTR's Dragon are among them. Since it's Mythri Movie Makers' financier lately, it has backed Ravi Teja's Irumudi and Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali recently, among other movies.

On Friday, T-Series announced its association with The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the two-part historical epic to be headlined by Kantara fame Rishab Shetty.

Recent reports stated that the combined budget of the two Shivaji movies is going to be Rs 500 Cr.

The project was made official nearly two years ago. And it's yet to commence its shoot. They are now targeting an early 2027 production rollout.

Rishab Shetty is also billed as one of the financial backers of the Shivaji movies. It's not clear whether he is making any investment per se, or is merely doing it on a revenue-sharing basis. If Jai Hanuman, directed by Prasanth Varma, becomes a blockbuster in 2027, the Shivaji movies will be coming out amid a buoyant outlook. Until then, doubts will linger about the potential of the biographical movies. By now, viewers are tired of hagiographical movies.
