In a recent interview, music director S Thaman claimed that he doesn't make much money from film music. Since he has been the most sought-after Tollywood composer in the last 6-7 years, his statement has shocked everyone.
Speaking to a YouTube channel, Thaman said, "If I am being paid Rs 5 Cr as remuneration for a movie, I spend almost Rs 4.90 Cr on expenses related to music production (instruments, studio set-up, musicians, etc). Almost all my fee goes into production. Concerts are my only major source of income."
Thaman further stated that the revenue generated by the album of Allu Arjun's Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo helped him manage family expenses during the pandemic-induced lockdown in 2020. "Songs like Butta Bomma and Ramuloo Ramulaa were sensational. I made enough money in the form of royalty," Thaman said.
Thaman's recent hits include OG and Daaku Maharaaj. He also composed music for big-ticket movies like Game Changer and Akhanda 2 this year.
