In the next two weeks, two big-budget movies are set to hit the cinemas. Kannappa and Kuberaa, in the order of their budgets, will grace the silver screens.
Kannappa, to be released on June 27, has allegedly been made on a budget of more than Rs 150 Cr. While Manchu Vishnu has hinted that its budget is more than Rs 200 Cr, any budget-related claims coming from our filmmakers have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Kannappa hasn't struck an OTT deal. While Vishnu claimed that he voluntarily stayed away from a streaming agreement because the quoted rate was not to his liking, rumours are that no major streaming platform was ready to spend even Rs 20 Cr on the movie. If Kannappa has to break even, it will have to become a sleeper hit of sorts. Prabhas' portions should stick so that the post-release buzz goes up.
Kuberaa, slated for a June 20 release, is believed to have been made on a budget of Rs 120 Cr. Dhanush is among the highest-paid Kollywood actors. If the movie becomes a hit in both Tamil and Telugu, Sekhar Kammula's bilingual journey would have started on a roaring note.
Both Kannappa and Kuberaa are expected to gain from the fact that Summer didn't have any major Telugu movies at the cinemas. Between the two movies, nearly Rs 270-300 Cr seems to be riding.
