A Dutch cinema chain Pathé has announced a promotional experiment called Pathé REWIND set for November 9. Pathé selected 30 moviegoers to work with hypnotherapist Victor Kraemer. "Participants will undergo individual preparation sessions online, followed by a live hypnosis session at the theater right before the screening to temporarily suppress their memories of the film," a media report says.
Applicants choose from Interstellar, The Matrix, La La Land, and Se7en during sign-ups. A single film from the four options is selected based on the collective preference of the participants so everyone watches the same movie together.
Movie buffs have reacted in interesting ways. "Can you imagine if they made you forget your favorite film and you rewatched it and didn't like it anymore because of all the things you have seen since then that crib off it and it seemed lame and derivative to you now?" Reid Southern wrote on X. "Letting someone hypnotize you and then immediately watching The Matrix is an incredible way to develop trust issues," a social media user joked. "Can they hypnotize me to forget about the horrible film adaptations of my favorite books? Like, could I get all three Hobbit movies deleted, please?" Anime ID asked. "A theater chain found a way to sell people interstellar twice and called it science," SubZero quipped.
