Dara Singh is Son of the Soil - PM Manmohan Singh

On Thursday morning, legendary wrestler turned actor Dara Singh’s death came as a shock to B-town as well as other parts of the country. The 84 year old died at his residence this morning following a brief illness. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Singh Modi, Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shahrukh Khan and several other Bollywood celebrities expressed their grief and sorrow to this great actor, who is famed as Rustam-E-Hind and Hanuman in the popular TV serial ‘Ramayan’. The actor contributed his services to Punjabi and Hindi cinema.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh described Dara Singh as the ‘Self-educated son of the Soil’ who rose to the heights of entertainment world, sports arena and public life with humility and grace.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi mentioned on twitter: "With his demise the Hindi film industry has lost a devoted artist. From the ring to screen, he won the hearts of generations! Our heartfelt tributes to Rustam-e-Hind Dara Singh. May his soul rest in peace.”

Sachin Tendulkar: “Along with the whole country I mourn the sad demise of Dara Singh ji. May his soul rest in peace.”

Amitabh Bachchan: Dara Singhji passed away this morning. A great Indian and one of the finest humans. An entire era of his celebrated presence gone.

Shah Rukh Khan: “Wrestlers are made of sweat, determination and a hard to find alloy called guts. Most apt for Dara Singhji our very own superman. Will miss you sir.”
