Speaking at a Telusu Kada event on Wednesday, senior writer Kona Venkat made an interesting remark. Saying that he was relieved to find that Siddu Jonnalagadda had finally freed himself of the DJ Tillu image with Telusu Kada, he added that Hrithik Roshan had grappled with the image Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai afforded him in the year 2000. "After his debut movie, he delivered 12 disasters. Once you deliver a sensational hit, the audience keep expecting that level of stuff from you," Kona Venkat commented.
Siddu and Hrithik's careers have some parallels. After his debut movie, which was a love story, Hrithik tried variety by accepting challenging subjects like Mission Kashmir. Krish was another movie he dared to experiment in. Siddu has attempted a spy comedy like Jack and a new-age romantic drama like Telusu Kada. Badass will be a dark film, while Kohinoor will be an event film (whenever it happens, it has the potential to take his stardom to the next level - provided it works commercially).
But the two careers don't have too many parallels. Hrithik competed with superstars like SRK and Salman Khan, who were already supremely popular long before his debut. Siddu is seen as a competitor to the likes of Vijay Deverakonda, Nithiin, Kiran Abbavaram and Sharwanand. That way, his task is relatively less overwhelming compared with that of Hrithik.
