'Mangalavaaram' was released in theatres five days ago. On Tuesday, at a grand event attended by Vishwak Sen as the chief guest, the team did something nobody would have expected them to. A twist that unfolds in the pre-climax phase was revealed! The twist involves Priyadarshi. (It can't be described as a full-scale reveal, for the makers didn't speak of how Priyadarshi's character is related to the central character Shailu.)
Nobody asked for the twist. There was no hype around the face behind the mask. As such, the reveal amid pomp and show didn't make much sense except for serving as another occasion for self-congratulatory speeches.
Will it not affect the movie-watching experience of the audience? Does the twist reveal event mean that the makers believe the movie's theatrical run has run its course? Even if that's the case, what was the hurry to spoil the experience of the movie's OTT audience?
To be fair to director Ajay Bhupathi, 'Mangalavaaram' is a not-bad film with excellent technical quality. The OTT audience would love to watch it. The family audience don't vehemently follow film news but youths do. The twist reveal event, which was much publicized, will really affect the experience of the thriller's young OTT viewership.
