Both Aadarsha Kutumbam and #Cult, released on the same day (October 30), have grossly under-performed relative to the financial stakes involved.
As per trade reports, the Venkatesh-Trivikram movie grossed Rs 49 Cr (as against the makers' claim that it made Rs 75 Cr) on the first weekend. It needs to collect another Rs 80 Cr for it to attain breakeven. This is a Herculean task. Evidently, the family audience haven't taken kindly to the relatively underwhelming latter half portions. Also, for a Trivikram movie, the humour quotient is negligible. Had even 20 minutes of the film been hilarious, the numbers would have been so much better. Even Satya's comedy is derivative.
#Cult grossed Rs 4 Cr only. Its run is practically over. Bland violence and amateurish execution (barring a few good episodes) have done the slasher thriller in. More than anything, Vishwak Sen's box-office credibility has crashed miserably in the wake of his consecutive disasters such as Laila, Gangs Of Godavari, Mechanic Rocky and others.
Exhibitors in the Telugu States are now counting on Diwali releases.
