Digger: Netizens hail Tom Cruise's boldest career gamble after Mission: Impossible

Digger is a dark satirical sci-fi comedy directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. It features Tom Cruise as eccentric Texas oil tycoon Digger Rockwell, who causes an apocalyptic glacier disaster and then frantically tries to "save" the world in over-the-top fashion. Iceberg bombing, nuclear waste drama, bumbling officials like John Goodman as president are all there.

What are netizens saying about the trailer and particularly about an "unrecognizable" Cruise. Let's find out:

1. A huge talking point is how Cruise looks completely different (read prosthetics, combover, dad bod, etc). Many call it potentially his least recognizable role ever and praise him for taking such a risky, non-action comedy turn after Mission: Impossible.

2. Described as "manic," "chaotic," "unapologetically unhinged," the trailer is being compared to Don’t Look Up. Many are intrigued by the satirical energy and unpredictable feel.

3. A movie buff says Digger is going to be the year's best. "We were all debating whether Dune 3 or The Odyssey would run away with Film of the Year… then Grandpa Cruise casually dropped DIGGER... and it looks absolutely bonkers," he wrote.

4. Someone is awed by Cruise. "It kills me that the Hollywood legend is a brilliant character comedy actor, but at the same time in 90% of films he chooses to play the same character: idealized Tom Cruise from Tom Cruise's fantasies," he added.
