The Hindi version of Ramayana has registered a gloomy domestic box office response, failing to secure a spot among the top ten Hindi film openings in India. The epic drama fell short of reaching the Rs 50 crore nett mark on its debut. Its opening day collections proved lower than other major releases this year, including Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar 2 and Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3. As per some estimates, even the disgraceful Toxic did better.
The comparison with Yash's Toxic proves particularly telling. Toxic managed to earn Rs 50 crore in the Hindi market despite keeping its ticket prices considerably lower. Ramayana was priced with an average ticket price roughly 40 to 50 percent higher than Toxic. In theatrical trade, Average Ticket Price (ATP) refers to the standard measure calculated by dividing total box office gross revenue by the number of tickets sold, trade tracker Sumit Kadel pointed out.
Ramayana versus Adipurush:
Three years ago, Prabhas' Adipurush opened to significantly better domestic figures on its first day, earning over Rs 36 crore nett in its Hindi version (India BO) alone and grossing over Rs 130 crore worldwide on Day 1 on the back of a robust Telugu market.
Not over yet:
Ramayana, co-starring Yash and Sai Pallavi, is not a done deal despite the poor opening-day numbers. Unlike Adipurush, its word of mouth is in its favour.
