Phrogging is a term for secretly living inside someone else’s home without their knowledge or permission. Mayookha, set to be released in theatres on October 9, is a mystery thriller based on this concept. Starring Payal Chengappa, this one is a rare thriller led by a female lead. Director Shree Tej SK has helmed this moody, atmospheric Hyderabad-set whodunit under the production of Sasidhar Nalla, who is confident that the film will impress the audience as much as the trailer. Payal, as per him, will be known after her character hereon. The director, he added, was so involved that he was the sole prowess behind its execution. The Dasara release will certainly be patronized by the Telugu audience.
Prashvitha Entertainment today unveiled the movie's trailer. Payal shared that Mayookha is a courageous film because it is female-centric. She lauded the producer for pushing the envelope. "The story (which involves a haunted house-like scenario mixed with a missing persons thriller) is incredibly interesting. My character's reactions to the eerie occurrences around her will generate goosebumps. It's going to be a new experience," she shared, urging the audience to watch it in theatres on October 9.
Director Shree Tej SK thanked his parents for reposing faith in his abilities, adding that they let him move to India from the US to pursue his filmmaking dreams. He thanked Payal for believing in his narration. He thanked the producer for the first opportunity ever. Calling his film a rare Telugu outing, the debutant revealed that they approached the color grading in a Hollywood and Korean cinema style. He promised nothing less than edge-of-the-seat thrilling experiences in theatres ahead of Dasara.
The cast shared their thoughts on the film: Master Shanmukh Charan expressed his gratitude to the director and producer for casting him as Veeru, confident that audiences would enjoy his character. Baby Madi Nasreen, who played young Mayookha, urged the audience to watch the film in theatres for its strong content. Nanaji Karri considered his role as Security Ravi one of the best opportunities of his career and praised Payal’s impressive lead performance. Dev D praised the engagingly cut trailer and expressed his gratitude to the director for extracting strong performances, adding that he had waited four years for such a role as SI Dev. Raghu Vasireddy highlighted the passion of the entire team, noting that everyone plays both a hero and a villain in the story, and shared his delight in securing such a good role. Abhilash Adda shared that the director had ensured every craft looked its best, hoping that the film will change the lives of those associated with it both in front of and behind the camera.
