Kajal Aggarwal in social drama: What The India Story lacks...

Kajal Aggarwal is currently doing a film titled The India Story. A social drama, it will highlight the deleterious consequences of excessive chemical use in farming. Co-starring Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade, the film is up for release on July 24 in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil.

At this point, the film doesn't seem to be controversial. While it might be raising a voice against corporations and their interests, it may not question the nexus between the political establishment and the business class.

Subjects of this grave nature need the backing of male star power in the context of Indian cinema. Imagine what would have happened to a subject like Janatha Garage had Jr NTR's character been written as a female comrade or warrior! This is not to say that female stars shouldn't give such subjects a try. The fact remains, however, that female-led social dramas suffer from the absence of a high budget. The poster of The India Story looks worn out. The aesthetics don't look encouraging, on the face of it.

Kajal Aggarwal was seen as Goddess Parvathi in last year's Kannappa. Earlier, she acted in the disastrous Satyabhama, a cop thriller. Balakrishna's Bhagavanth Kesari is her only star vehicle in recent years.
