It's known that Puri Jagannadh went through a severe financial crisis and near-bankrupt position during the mid-2000s. While he was delivering hits on screen, his personal finances collapsed behind the scenes due to a combination of betrayal, bad investments, and heavy debt.
In a recent interview, music director Raghu Kunche revealed that Puri was paying Rs 50 lakh just on the interest on his debts. "That was around the time Ek Niranjan and Bumper Offer were in the making. The situation became so dire that he had to sell his office space to clear his loan," Kunche added.
It's said that his close friends and associates who managed his finances took out loans using his name, forged signatures, and cheated him out of crores.
Puri Jagannadh is currently directing Slum Dog with Vijay Sethupathi, Tabu, and Samyuktha in key roles. The film is believed to be struggling to close non-theatrical deals. Liger with Vijay Deverakonda resulted in heavy losses for its distributors. Puri and his partner, Charmme Kaur, too, incurred losses on the project.
