Love Insurance Kompany (LIK), starring Pradeep Ranganathan, SJ Suryah and Krithi Shetty, was released recently. The film, produced by Nayanthara, was a box-office flop.
Director Vignesh Shivan (Nayanthara's husband) on Sunday suggested that the public perception around the film flipped after a good first weekend. He implied that LIK would have received better reviews had it not lacked the support of an ecosystem, including industry peers and influential voices.
He also criticized reviewers, saying that they penned their reviews to "showcase intelligence or superiority". Such reviews, he added, end up "discouraging audiences from giving a movie a chance and crushing the dreams of ambitious filmmakers". Evidently, Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara are hitting out at the media.
The film was delayed by several months. Its decent openings in Tamil were mainly due to Pradeep's image. In Telugu, LIK was a total washout.
