Dhurandhar star Sara Arjun is officially set to play the legendary Madhubala, the Hindi film actress from the black and white era. This complex biopic will bypass cinemas for a direct OTT release. Director Jasmeet K. Reen will helm the project under Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s production. Madhubala remains an eternal icon of grace and talent. She was often called the 'Venus of Indian Cinema'. Her beauty and acting prowess defined a golden era of Bollywood.
Sara Arjun aims to capture the late actress's unique charm and screen presence. The film will explore Madhubala’s rise to stardom and her complex personal life. Filming is expected to begin this summer. It's said that Sara is being paid a remuneration of a whopping Rs 10 Cr for the part.
Usually, after delivering a box-office blockbuster, actresses hanker after regular commercial dramas. Sara realizes that that trajectory is harmful in today's changed times. Bhansali's involvement must have convinced her that she is cut out for the biopic.
Keerthy Suresh famously won a National Award for her role as Savitri in Mahanati. Similarly, Kangana Ranaut transformed into Jayalalithaa for Thalaivii. The former was a blockbuster, while the latter was a flop even in Tamil Nadu. A female-led, high-profile biopic for OTT is a first.
